I remember visiting you in the hospital. They only allowed people 14 and older into the unit you were in. I was 13, but my parents lied to them so I could see you. You were so thin. Your skin was stretched over you like parchment. I remember that you recognized me and said hello. We talked briefly. I remember how you commented on what a lovely day it was, and gestured to the window. You talked about the trees and the meadow. I remember it was all I could do not to cry, because the window curtains were closed. I remember this was our last conversation before you passed. You were the second relative that I remembered to have passed. And the first where I'd gotten to see you in your final days.

This is still a sad memory
